Working Out With the Proform 820 R Power Incline Elliptical TrainerThe Proform 820 R Power Incline is one of the elliptical trainers offered at the budget market for exercise machines. The brand is owned by Icon Health and Fitness, a company known for manufacturing ellipticals, treadmills and other exercise devices. This model is just one of the numerous ellipticals distributed under the Proform name. The Proform 820 is equipped with a Power Incline Ramp that has a 10 to 30 percent angle. This feature is for altering the elliptical incline to allow the user to change the focused muscle group. The machine also has an adjustable stride function called StrideSelect which changes the elliptical stride from 12 inches to 18 inches. The model also has EKG hand grip pulse sensors, 10 levels of digitally controlled magnetic resistance, a dual speed CoolAire workout fan and a ClearView backlit display. The display console monitors the speed, time, distance, resistance, RPM, calories burned and pulse of the person exercising. This model from Icon has 10 pre-programmed workouts including eight Smart Programs and two Pulse Driven programs. The machine is equipped with slip resistant over-sized pedals designed to allow the user to find the perfect foot position; and like most Proform models, this one is also iFit compatible. The elliptical has a maximum weight capacity of 113 kg. The warranty is set for two years covering both parts and labor. It is priced at $224 although the cost may vary depending on the seller and the location. Reading about all these features, one might think that the product is a superb bargain. What with all the functions and the cost being really low, a consumer will be likely attracted to the machine and might not even consider other models. But like other Proform models, the 820 also suffers from low quality materials. Durability is not the strongest point of elliptical trainers from this brand. What potential buyers need to understand is that most descriptions for product features come from manufacturers. High technical terms do not automatically correlate to a high tech performance. Besides, the product is just above two hundred dollars, you can’t really expect an elliptical machine to cost this low and be as good as it sounds. The Proform 820 R Power Incline elliptical machine does have all the necessary features, but these functions cannot be taken as assurance that the product will deliver a top level performance. The brand, after all, is not known for durability and high quality components. |
