It is only logical to assume that elliptical trainers  ratings are based on the products themselves. Features, durability and the quality of components are the aspects commonly considered by reviewers when rating elliptical brands. But are there also factors outside of the product itself that influence how brands are rated?

It is possible that elliptical trainers  ratings are not just about the products but also about the companies behind them. It is not surprising then that product reviewers consider the public and business reputation of the manufacturers of these machines when rating their products. The exercise equipment industry, like any other business, relies heavily on marketing. The companies operating in this sector position their products in such a way that they would attract the attention of consumers and create a reliable and highly functional image. Sometimes, business is more about perception than actual performance.

For the most part, exercise machines from well-known names such as Precor, Life Fitness and Smooth Fitness earn high ratings. These brands have cemented their positions at the top of the rating ladder that consumers and market observers alike are more likely to believe a positive rating of their products than a good review of a lesser known brand. This is not to say that the products from these companies are not of top quality. The primary reason why they are on top, after all, is because they do make the best products.

Company names have a lot to do with how products are perceived and received. For example, Johnson ellipticals are more likely to attract consumers because it is possible that buyers would associate the company’s name with the famous drug maker (although in this case there is no direct connection between the elliptical manufacturer and the pharmaceutical firm). Horizon, on the other hand, even with its high end offerings, will still be considered by consumers as a manufacturer of ellipticals aimed at the budget market. And these two brands are manufactured by only one firm, Johnson Health Tech Co.

The thing about elliptical trainers  ratings is that raters cannot really sample all the products offered in the market, it is just not possible. The writers of these reports have to rely on other factors such as the reputation of the products’ manufacturers and how the brand is generally perceived by consumers. That is how it is in business.
