The Octane Elliptical Q35e - An Expensive Mistake? Those who have wisely tried and purchased – or unwisely purchased first and then tried – the Octane Elliptical Q35e have expressed a biased opinion against it. Its big and heavy bulk of 30” x 67” in dimension and weight of a hefty 270 pounds would have been a good assurance that it would be smooth and would give one a general feeling of stability and reliability. Sorry to note that such is not the case with this particular model of an elliptical exercise machine. The Octane Elliptical Q35e’s HeartLogic Intelligence (ver 1.0) has five programs that are warranted by the manufacturer to be the ultimate training programs. It also has a wireless heart rate monitoring system that lock in on your heart rate and interactively customizes the level of cross-training challenge with it. However, the main problem is in its moving parts that generate so much alarming whirring noise and jarring motion while in operation – and one is not able to exercise with peace of mind that nothing is amiss. Most of these moving parts are el-cheapo’s and wouldn’t stand the test of endurance through time. Despite its bulk, you would get the uneasy impression that it will break down on you midstream. Is nothing good left to be said about this model? Well, if you would believe what you read the technical brochures on this model, for the outrageous price of under-$3,000 you will be getting an ergonomically designed exercise machine that ensures correct posture as you exercise. Ergonomics is important so as not to create undue damage to your spine if you have to reach up to handlebars or grip-bars that are much too high or much too low as you exercise. The step-on pedals are closer to the ground, which makes it easier for the user to get up on the machine. So, obviously, these are not enough to satisfy the customer. It does not matter that this model carries an excellent lifetime warranty on its frame, three years on its parts and one year on labor, the Octane Elliptical Q35e is still considered not a very wise buy by many. There is also the matter of its after-sales customer support that is not very well-regarded in the community of health-and-fitness enthusiasts, which makes it worse for this elliptical exercise machine. |
