Employee Management Via Cross Training Procedure for Absences in WorkplaceStatistics have it that many personnel absences in the corporate setup are caused by accidents in the workplace. Basically, this is due to management’s negligence of safety measures and the lack of a cross training procedure for absences in workplace prevention. This is a matter of particular importance to businesses engaged in the hard-hat engineering and construction business. Safety in the workplace should be a major concern for everyone, both management and rank-and-file. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a U.S. agency tasked with instituting safety and procedural standards, especially in workplaces. It is important that all companies comply with these standards and procedure to ensure that there is a measure of safety for the workforce. Failure to do so leaves the company management liable for any accident happening in the workplace. Certainly, a cross training procedure for absences in workplace management would meet with OSHA regulations. Emergency preparedness plans should be elucidated to employees in cases of disasters or accidents. No business should risk operating without any disaster plans. To make sure the employees are aware of these safety measures and safety procedure standards, an awareness campaign must be circulated to employees and on bulletin boards for easy access. The employees should have no excuse for not being aware of such safety standards. They should know what to do in case of fire or bomb threats and the premises have to be evacuated. Fire exits must be visible and accessible without any encumbrance in cases of emergency, and an orderly evacuation of employees must be clear and, if necessary, dry runs must be periodically performed for this. Those who will have to remain in the premises to make last-minute critical plant operations before evacuating must have definite instructions. There should also be procedures to be followed for accounting for all employees and the performance of rescue and medical operations after a disaster. As a back-up support plan, especially during this age when telecommuting has become popular, a cross training procedure for absences in workplace for ALL employees in all work-shift is imperative for preventive, precautionary and safety procedures. This is so that in the absence of a key employee, anyone would be qualified and able to perform safety standards and emergency measures for accidents and disasters. A more intensive training and a more rigid implementation procedure would be most useful in such a setup. |
