Cheap Elliptical Strider Machines: What Do They Have to Offer

The popularity of elliptical motion exercise has spawned hundreds of brands offering hundreds of models of elliptical machines. Because the exercise trend has gone beyond the rich and the can-afford, cheap elliptical strider machines are able to create their own market and compete against high class ellipticals, or those that are priced between $1,000 to $3,000.

Cheap elliptical strider machines are those offered below $500. Although ellipticals that are worth less than $1,000 can still be considered as cheap, we will narrow the focus on brands that have models offered below $500 since this group seems to be enjoying a higher degree of commercial success. Some of the better known brands in this segment are Horizon, Proform, Fitness Quest and Stamina.

Arguably the most popular brand among the lot, the Horizon series of ellipticals cater to the middle class consumers. Although Horizon also offers models that are priced above $500, some of the company’s best selling machines are those that are priced below this mark, or those that are sometimes offered on sale for around $499.99. For a relatively low priced elliptical, Horizon offers a comfortable machine and a reasonable warranty program. Despite occasional complaints of quality and service problems, this brand is worth considering if a person is looking for a cheaper machine. After all, if the consumer has the money to spend, he or she won’t be looking at the low-priced market.

Another brand that can compete against Horizon in the middle market is Proform. The company’s Proform 675, priced between $299 to $399, has become one of the most popular choices among buyers looking for cheaper, functionable machines. Like Horizon, it is considered a relatively good buy, owing to the fact that it’s got the necessary features for an elliptical. Grip Pulse sensors, LCD display panel and built-in cooling system can all be found in Proform 675. But just like other low-priced ellipticals, this brand also suffers from reports of quality problems and component breakdowns. Generally speaking, though, machines in the Proform lineup do serve their purpose.

Two more brands that offer cheaper ellipticals are Fitness Quest, with the Eclipse 1100 worth $399.99, and Stamina Conversion, which is priced at $299.99. Both of these machines provide the user with the low impact, full body workout that ellipticals are best known for. And as expected, they also have quality and durability problems, much like the Horizon and the Proform brands.

Although cheap elliptical strider machines are not recommended to people who are into elliptical motion workout for the long haul, these machines can still perform the function that they were designed for; that of providing the user with a cardiovascular workout without the worries of knee or back injuries.
