Buying an Elliptical Machine: Used or Not?It is no secret that exercise machines, especially good ones that don't break within the week, cost quite a lot. The price of an exercise machine can easily reach $3000 if it is a brand name. A lot of people buy the cheaper brands, but regret it very soon. With no idea which cheap machines don't malfunction and no ability to buy a brand, people turn to used devices instead. Take for example the elliptical machine; used machines will cost much less and you can still get one known to be good quality for a very reasonable price. The question is though; is it really worth it? The problem with any used machine is that you can't be sure what kind of state it is in before actually having it in your home and trying it out. Sellers can sell the machine to you with words and simply by making it look good before you buy it, and it is not their concern if you later find out your bargain wasn't quite that. Not only the performance; there are other matters at stake. If you buy an elliptical machine used, chances are the warranty will be over already and you will end up shouldering any maintenance costs yourself. There are few used devices that don't need maintenance and hoping that you will be the exception will not make the threat go away. What's the solution then? First off, never buy a used machine that is older than a year, no matter the price. If the machine is still fairly new, the chances of getting heaped with broken parts and high repair costs are much less. Another option is to simply stay away from used devices altogether. There are some exercise machines whose brands are not well-known and yet they are extremely reliable and cheap. All it takes is one googling session and you should come away with a fair idea of which brands could benefit you. Of course, good bargains do happen. If you find an elliptical machine, used but in excellent condition (this requires testing before buying, be very careful with this) and for a really good price, you should definitely go for it. If you're lucky, you'll end up having saved at least a few hundred dollars and still getting everything you need out of the product. |
